The schedule doesn’t get easier for the home town Virgin Valley High School Bulldog football team as they host the ‘Big Dawg’ of 1-A Division, Desert Pines High School Jaguars in a league matchup Friday night, Oct 2, in the Dawg Pound.

The Jaguars are coming off a 64-0 shellacking of Boulder City High last Friday night. The win gives the Jaguars a 6-0 overall record and 4-0 in Sunrise League play. The Desert Pines squad is ranked fourth in the South among all schools. They had big wins over Division 1 power Arbor View 50-14 and 1-A perennial power Moapa Valley 34-20 this season.

The Jaguars are led by Isaiah Morris who has racked up 681 yards on the ground, an 11.35 yards per carry, and quarterback Marckell Grayson’s 716 yards through the air. Their lines feature six players over 295 pounds and a couple of large linebackers.

The Bulldogs will counter with their all-everything back Cody Jones who is averaging nearly 100 yards per game. Q.B. Hogan Fowles will be counted on to keep the Jaguar defense honest with pinpoint passing.

Will the Dawgs leave behind the disappointing loss last week to Sunrise Mountain and play with unbridled enthusiasm? I think so; no doubt being a big underdog is motivation in itself.
