After starting the season 4-1 going into league play the Virgin Valley High School soccer team has only managed one goal over four straight losses to league foes. The Bulldogs were shutout once again 3-0 Monday night by a well-coached and disciplined TECH Roadrunner team. During the losing streak opponents have scored 14 goals.
TECH went to their attack mode immediately to begin the match, moving down field and scoring 3 minutes into the game. Eduardo Gomez slipped a shot by the Bulldog defenders for the goal. Although the Dawg defense held the powerful TECH offense to zero goals in the next 37 minutes of the first half, the Dawgs could only manage one shot on goal in 40 minutes of play. Meanwhile the Roadrunners offense had 7 shots on the Bulldogs. Good work by Bulldog goalkeeper Roman Perez kept the score 1-0.
The second half was a more physical game as the Bulldogs seemed to wake up from their doldrums. The first 21 minutes of the period found the Dawgs battling the Roadrunners equally. Bulldog goalkeeper made a huge save 22 minutes in on a TECH breakaway. Each side was then called for a yellow card in the next minute as the aggressiveness showed.
The Roadrunners blew the game wide open at the 23 minute mark of the second half with two goals by Eduardo Gomez within a minute of each other. The Bulldogs had an opportunity to score goal with minutes left in the game but the Bulldog penalty kick sailed wise right. The Roadrunners outshot the Dawgs 14-3 for the game.
The Bulldogs go out of town next week before hosting Boulder City on Oct. 8 at the Mesquite Sports and Events Center.
