August is almost here, as is that time of year many students dread: the new school year.

This year, the Clark County School District (CCSD) opted to take the new technological route with registrations and having all potential students do everything online.

Through their online portal at http://ccsd.net/schools/back-to-school/, students and parents can find out most information they will need before the August 24 start date.

For those attending J.L. Bowler Elementary in Bunkerville, their offices will be open beginning Monday, August 3. All registrations must be done online for both Bowler Elementary and for Virgin Valley Elementary. For questions with either school, contact their office staff between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Hughes Middle School has encouraged families to register beforehand, and also requests that they attend one of two registration days to obtain schedules, lockers, fill out additional forms and pay fees needed for materials. Students with last names beginning in A through L will be at the Middle School on Tuesday, August 11 from either 8 a.m.-noon or from 5-7 p.m. Students with last names beginning in M through Z will be during the same hours, but on Wednesday, August 12 at the Middle School.

For students attending Virgin Valley High School, there will be an 8th Grade Orientation for incoming freshmen on Thursday, August 20 at 5 p.m. in the Auditorium. The Back to School Night from 6-8 p.m. The Fall Sports Parent Meeting will commence in the VVHS gym from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Additionally, the VVHS staff will be available for students to register, pay fees and pick up their schedules August 10-12 from 8-11 a.m.

For more information on these events, contact the respective schools at the numbers below:

Immunization records will also need to be up to date for all students. Parents can easily access their child’s immunization records by contacting their healthcare provider, visiting Nevada WebIZ’s parent portal at https://izrecord.nv.gov or by calling the Nevada WebIZ helpdesk at (775) 684-5954.

All students entering 7th grade must get a Tdap booster shot to enter school.

According to a press release, a $20 donation is requested to cover the cost of the vaccine; however no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Those with insurance should bring their cards.

For more information, please visit www.ImmunizeNevada.org/backtoschool or call (775) 624-7117.

The Mesquite branch of the SNHD, 830 Hafen Lane, is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., but closed from noon-1 p.m. for lunch on those days. They will also be closed on Thursday, August 6. Those seeking immunizations will need to bring a copy of their record.
