The high winds Mesquite and the Virgin Valley sustained Monday afternoon left the Knights of Columbus’ fireworks stands in pieces. Courtesy photo.

Monday afternoon’s wild weather didn’t leave just dust around the Virgin Valley. It also left destruction in some places. MLN-Wind2jul2-15

One structure in particular was the Knights of Columbus’ fireworks stand that was staged at the old Mesquite Star on North Sandhill Boulevard.

“The wind just picked it up and it nearly hit my guy that was working the booth,” said Joel Sodano, one of the organizers with the KOC. “Thankfully he wasn’t hurt, but this set us back a day or two for sure.”

The stand has been open for a few days, with a portion of the proceeds from sales going towards the Mesquite Reads program, as well as other local charities.

Sodano stated that he was working on getting a replacement booth and sales should commence by Thursday at the latest. The booth will remain open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through July 4.
