Dave Jordan and 14 other MMGA players managed to get through the first very warm day of the 2015 summer season.  Everyone seemed to have finished their morning in fine shape.  Dave Jordan especially had a solid round of 38-38-76 to win medalist honors by four shots over arch rival Andrew Yeh (80) and Ken Ward (80).  Ward’s round earned him first place low net with 69.  Pat Smitty had the shot of the day.   On the par-five 11th, his tee shot landed in the water.  He dropped and hit his third shot about 100yds from the green.  From there his gap wedge landed on the green and rolled into the cup for a “Bomb” birdie four.  Don Mannon still leads the summer net tournament by 22 pts over Andrew Yeh.

Thursday at the Canyons it was friend against friend or small against huge.  So the contest was won by Andrew Yeh’s ability to make birdies.  He had three on his way to an even par 35 on the front and a 39, with a triple bogey on 18, for a total 74.  Those birdies made the difference as he beat Dave Jordan by two shots.  Jordan had one birdie on the front for his even par round of 35 but finished the back side with 41 for 76.  It was Jordan’s second straight round of 76.  Pat Smitty has been spending a lot of time on the range and today those long hours paid off as he shot a nice round of 39-41-80 to tie Dan Trower’s  39-45-84 for low net 67.  Smitty won it on the second handicap hole with a nice par four to Trower’s double.  Bubba Petrick had the hole of the day.  Not playing as well as he expected coming to the par four sixth he decided to hit his driver over the hill on the left and go for broke.  It didn’t sound very good so when he came around the corner he was shocked to see his ball in the middle of the fairway.  He put his second shot in the middle of the green where he stroked a 20 foot “bomb” up the hill dead in the cup for a sweet birdie three.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, June 123 at Falcon Ridge at 7:30 a.m. and Thursday June 25th at the Palms at 7:10 a.m.  Always check your sig up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 702-346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
