As the 2014-15 school year comes to a close, the Beaver Dam Elementary School Community honors Josselyn Hernandez as she stands in the AcKIDemic Spotlight. Josselyn was chosen because she personifies what it means to be an excellent student and classroom citizen. This has been her pattern throughout her years in school.
Josselyn is the youngest child of Lorena and Juan Hernandez. She has two older brothers, Juan and Kevin. Juan is 21 and lives in nearby Mesquite. Kevin is 16 and attends Beaver Dam High School. Two pets round out the family; Mia and Chiques. They are Chihuahua mixes. Josselyn likes to play with her pets and they bring laughter to the entire family.
Along with being an accomplished student, Josselyn is fluent in both English and Spanish. Her fluency in both languages will assist her as she works towards her goal of becoming a surgeon. She says that dealing with surgery will not be a problem because it is her sincere desire to help people. She plans to begin her medical education with undergraduate work at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.
Josselyn’s favorite subject in school is writing. She loves to compose fantasy stories, giving her imagination free reign. She also enjoys the challenges presented in her math lessons. Josselyn spends much of her free time enjoying a good book. She likes books that make her laugh. Her sage advice to other students is “never give up”.
This summer Josselyn might take a vacation to Colorado to visit a beloved uncle. Other possibilities include spending time at a water park or visiting an aquarium. She enjoys soccer and belongs to a local team. She enjoys using her IPAD to learn about topics which come to mind. Josselyn looks forward to the freedom of summer but will miss her many school friends.
Alexander Eagle, protector and mascot of Beaver Dam Elementary School, leads the entire community in giving Josselyn a full-wing salute for being such an outstanding student and role model for all the eaglets at the school!
