On May 6, 2015 a baby donkey was born at about 10 p.m. at the Satellite adoption Center for peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue in Scenic, AZ. The proud mother is Fernie, a donkey from the Sheldon Refuge near Reno, Nevada. The baby is a girl; she is predominately gray in color with a white star. She also proudly displays the “Donkeys Cross,” a narrow strip of hair that runs down her back and each shoulder in a darker shade than the rest of her coat. This naturally makes the shape of a cross.
The contest to name the baby donkey will run from June 1-12. The winner will be notified on June 14 and be announced to the public on June 15 at the Birthday Celebration. In the event of several people submitting the winning name, the winner will be drawn from those submissions.

Anyone wishing to participate and enter a name for the baby donkey can do so by going to The Mesquite Community and Senior Center, 102 W Old Mill Rd., and filling out an entry form. The Center is open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

A gift basket will be awarded to the person submitting the winning name for the baby donkey.

Judging the entries will be volunteers and donkey fosters from the satellite adoption center.

On June 15 at 1 p.m. The Mesquite Community and Senior Center will be hosting a birthday celebration party in honor of the baby. Cake and ice cream will be served.
