The Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs were on the verge of gaining their first league win of the season until Jose Avellino of Desert Pines stroked a three run homer in the ninth inning to give the Jaguars a 6-3 win. Avellino went 3-5 with five R.B.I’ to lead Desert Pines.

The Bulldogs took an early lead putting one run on the scoreboard in the first inning. The Jaguars scored two runs in the third for a 2-1 advantage. The Dawgs tied the game at two apiece in the bottom of the fifth. Neither team scored until the Jaguars retook the lead with one run in the top of the eighth inning. Not to be denied, the Dawgs added one run of their own, continuing the extra inning game. A single and a walk set up Avellino’s effort for the win. Sergio Pacheco led the Dawgs with two hits. Three Bulldog hurlers pitched well for the Dawgs. Marcello Lara went six plus innings and a 2-2 tie before being pulled.

The Dawgs face Pahranaghat Valley in a doubleheader today a 3pm before spring break. The Bulldogs will play in the Cowboy Classic in Las Vegas beginning Monday through Wednesday March 31. The Dawgs’ next home game will be against Sunrise Mountain on April 7.
