Long Drive Champion Greg Walker will give a golf clinic on Thursday, April 2, at the Mesquite Sports & Event Complex during the Mesquite Senior Games Long Drive competition.  According to Walker, a Long Drive professional since 1998, the clinic will address issues faced by aging golfers and demonstrate techniques to help them overcome the things that hinder distance.

“Young people workout trying to do things they’ve never done before, while seniors workout hoping to maintain what they have always been able to do,” said Walker.  “I address how our golf swing is affected by the changes in our aging bodies, to include our size and shape, and provide tips and instruction to cheat the process. The goal is to help them get back what was once theirs in the first place.”

Walker, 55, says he has had many surgeries and arthritis, but can still compete in Professional Long Drive events.  He has been featured on training videos and infomercials on the Golf Channel.  He has performed hundreds of power clinics around the US; most notably, the Masters in 2001, and the PGA World Golf Championships in 2002.

“We are so fortunate to have an accomplished golfer and clinician such as Greg to volunteer to put on this clinic,” said Terri Rylander, Mesquite Senior Games Director.  “We hope that the sports offered by the Senior Games can keep our seniors active and always improving their skills.”

The Long Drive competition opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m., and the driving range opens at 8 a.m.  Male and female golfers over age 50 will compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze, in 5-year age brackets.  Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to sign up online at www.MesquiteSeniorGames.org.
