Shirley Ann Madsen was remembered at a celebration of life on Thursday, February 12 at the Mesquite Lutheran Church. Over 70 people shared their memories of this wonderful woman who touched so many people here in Mesquite. Shirley was born July 28, 1935 in Rexberg, ID and married Vernon Madsen on September 20, 1958 in Elko, NV. They made Salt Lake City and Wendover, UT their home until twelve years ago. Moving to Mesquite to retire and be near Shirley’s sister, she became involved in multiple organizations including the Red Hats Society, the Ms Senior Mesquite, and the Mesquite-Toes. The Mesquite-Toes are dedicating a theater seat at the Community Theater to her that will state “In memory of Shirley Madsen, forever a “Mesquite-Toe”.
She was a devoted wife and mother. Shirley also worked in retail sales for Mervyn’s and JC Penny where she fueled her love for shopping and a bargain. Throughout her life she enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, and boating at Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge. With her husband, they enjoyed super modified auto racing throughout the Western US and Canada.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon; three sons and a daughter; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
