According to NHP PIO Loy Hixson, a call came in this morning at about 5:34 a.m. of a semi truck and trailer fully engulfed in flames on I-15 at the Overton exit, just past the overpass at milemarker 93.

Initial investigation has concluded that there was a mechanical failure between the truck and the trailer, causing the fire to ignite and destroy both the cab and front end of the trailer, which was carrying fruits, vegetables, meats and other perishable items. Hixson stated that the 52 year old driver from Arizona was not injured during the incident.

The company responsible for the trailer was not identified, other than the trailer was based out of Oklahoma.

Southbound drivers can expect a slight delay through noon today, as NHP directs traffic through the off-ramp and through to the on-ramp for Overton.
