The FC Mesquite Crush girls soccer team competed in the Dixie Invitational Soccer tournament over Thanksgiving weekend held in St George and had various teams from throughout the state of Utah competing.
The FC Mesquite CRUSH girls entered the tournament as underdogs competing against teams from larger cities like the St George and Salt Lake City areas.
FC Mesquite Crush made it to the playoffs by knocking out top-ranked St George team Rage FC 2-1.
The Championship game was played against NUU-Tsunami, a Northern Utah United soccer club team who went undefeated in their season in Logan, UT and had beat FC Mesquite Crush 4-2 the previous day.
Tsunami came out strong putting two goals in the net within the first 15 minutes of play, but the young ladies from FC Mesquite Crush would not give up. The girls launched a comeback from which legends are formed.
FC Mesquite Crush answered back with 2 goals of their own prior to half time. At the half the score was 2-2. The start of the second half proved to be too much for Tsunami as they fell apart under the attack launched by FC Mesquite Crush.
The Crush girls drilled the Logan, UT based Tsunami with shot after shot, eventually scoring 3 more goals to Tsunami’s 1.
FC Mesquite Crush Coach Scott Trimming stated, “The girls played as a team, with all the heart and love for the game as any professional player would. They are truly a unique and special group of girls, they have made Mesquite proud and represented their home town with pride. I could not ask for a better group of young ladies to have on a soccer team.”
FC Mesquite Crush ended up defeating Tsunami 5-3 at the end of the game to bring home the U11 Girls Dixie Invitational championship.
