Gabe ‘Gabby’ Medina ends VVHS career with 4 goals and 4 assists
The Virgin Valley High School boy soccer team ended a disappointing 2014 season powering over the Eagles from Boulder City 11-0. “I’m upset we couldn’t move on,” said senior leader Gabby Medina after Wednesday’s match. “I want to thank all the coaches for helping me through school and I am looking forward to soccer next fall at Dixie State.” Medina has received a soccer scholarship from the Utah based school. Medina had an amazing 4 goals and 4 assists to lead the Dawgs.
The Dawgs scored early on a pass from Medina to his brother Moises less than one minute into the game. Gabby Medina got his first goal 14 minutes in on a pass from Uli Flores. Oswaldo Cabrera struck goal 20 minutes in with the assist going to Gabby Medina. The first half onslaught continued with Ricky Trujillo striking goal followed by Gabby Medina with two more and Moises Medina finishing the first half scoring making the score an unsurmountable 7-0.
The Bulldogs would add four more goals in the second period, one each from the Medina brothers and one goal from Domingo Ramirez and Justin Cazares.
The Bulldogs ended their season with a 7-7-0 record in league play and 10-8-2 overall.
Playing their last game wearing Bulldog colors were Gabby Medina, Oswaldo Cabrera, Geysson Murillo, Sergio Pacheco, Domingo Ramirez and Ricky Trujillo. “I’m more disappointed for the boys not playing anymore,” said Coach Mike Pletzke. “It’s a sad day for me as I have watched some of these kids since the sixth grade. We won’t be as highly rated going in next year, but we still have a lot of talent.”
