TUESDAY  –  HAWKINS  IS  IMPRESSIVE  IN  DEBUT

The latest member to join the MMGA, Jonathan Hawkins was very impressive to say the least playing his first day at the Palms Golf course.  Rumor had it that his first round at Falcon Ridge he shot even par 72.  That rumor was confirmed today as he played with the annual club champion Ron Manthey.  Manthey shot 40 while Hawkins played the front nine even par 36 and had only two bogies on the back for a round of two over par 74.  Manthey wasn’t about to concede anything just yet as he bested Hawkins on the back side with his own even par round of 36 for a total score of 76.  Welcome Jonathan, we hope you will continue to play well and often.  John Meyer and Paul LeVan were three shots back with their rounds of 79.  Meyer’s net 69 was matched by Terry Gardner’s (81).  Meyer’s bogey five on the really tough par four 18 took home the first place low net as Gardner double bogeyed it.  Bill Irace (81) secured third net with his 70.   Manthey’s net 71 broke the tie for fourth with a par on the first handicap hole when LeVan bogeyed.

Welcome back “snowballs” Jim Guttridge and Jim Barfknecht.

THURSDAY –  HOEPFNER  EXCELLS  IN  “DRY RUN”

The MMGA members had a “dry run” tournament on Thursday at the Casa Blanca golf course.  It was in preparation for their annual club tournament in November.  Ed Hoepfner,  playing on his long time “home” course, and playing out of the first flight, played flawless golf with a two over par front side and one over on the back for a superb round of 75.  He beat Andrew Yeh (78) by three strokes and J.P. Laliberte (79) and Bill Irace (79) by four shots.  The flight winners were : Championship Andrew Yeh, First Flight Hoepfner, Second Flight John Meyer (86) (winning the tie breaker) over Don Mannon and Sterling Johnson, Third Flight Roger Mueller (84).

The net winners were: Irace with net 68, second, third and fourth were tied by Sterling Johnson, Jim Barfknecht (88) and Mannon (86).  They tie breaker was won by Barfknecht, third went to Johnson and fourth to Mannon. Fifth and Sixth place was a tie between J.P. Laliberte and Neil Hendricks (83) at a net 73.  J.P. won 5th on the tie breaker and Hendricks settled for 6th.

We welcome to the MMGA new members Jonathon Hawkins and Tim Miller.  We also welcome back “snow balls”  Bob Chambers, Neil Hendricks and Glade Flanigan.
