The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog soccer gals easily defeated Chaparral High School Cowboys 6-0 at the Mesquite Sports and Events Center Monday night. Bulldog Coach Bob Snell had a smile on his face after the game as his young charges came out early and responded to his urgings to play with more enthusiasm. “We need some consistency in our play,’ said Coach Snell. “It just hasn’t been there.”
The Bulldogs scored at the two minute mark on a pass from Taylor Bryant to Kallie Graves. Bulldog Abbie Barnum added the first of her three goals at the 9 minute mark on an unassisted run to goal. Lady Dawg Kari Wakefield found Emma Dodenbier with a crisp pass for goal 26 minutes in to give the Dawgs a 3-0 advantage. Wakefield would again get an assist on a goal by Barnum to end the first half of the match with the Dawgs up 4-0.
Freshman Wakefield would add to the Bulldogs’ goals five minutes into the second half going in unassisted. Coach Snell pulled his first team after Barnum got the ‘Hat Trick’ for a 6-0 lead with 26 minutes remaining in the game. “We’ll see how we respond on Wednesday against a good Desert Pines team,” added Snell.
The Bulldogs are one game behind the Jaguars for third place in league play. The game will be played at the Rec. Center on Wednesday October 15.
Boys Lose 4-2
Bulldog boy soccer team lost to Chaparral 4-2 despite two goals from Gabby Medina. The Dawgs had no defense against Cowboy striker Omar Miranda who had four goals for the Cowboys.
The Dawgs trailed 2-1 at halftime but could not overtake the Cowboys’ lead. The Bulldogs’ record fell to 4-5 in league play. The Dawgs are one game behind their next opponent, Desert Pines, who they face Wednesday on the Jaguars’ home field. The match could settle who has the advantage for the fourth seed spot in the last two weeks of league play.
