Mesquite artist Gail Smith will offer a weekly class in acrylic and oil painting at the Mesquite Fine Arts Center Classroom starting Tuesday, September 30. She welcomes all levels of artist from beginning to advanced to the class, which will meet Tuesday afternoons, 1-4p.m. Cost for each class is $10, to be paid to the instructor on class day.
Each class will be conducted on a format that provides instruction and practice. Ms. Smith will teach a new art principle for the first 45 minutes of each class, then allow students to experiment with the concept. Students will then paint on their own canvas with guidance from the instructor. Smith enjoys watching each student create and develop an individual style.
She wants each artist to grow skills so they are confident painting without aid from an instructor. Her goal is to take students from their current level to where they envision themselves as an artist. “Art is as individual and personal as each artist,” she states.
Gail Smith is a lifelong painter and experienced instructor. Her formal training was taken at the California Art Institute, and she has worked under the mentorship of noted artists David Gallup of California and Utah’s John Hughes. She has exhibited in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. She has won numerous awards and has done a one-woman show. Her work is found in private collections all over the U.S.
Gail is a member of Virgin Valley Artists Association. In 2013, she took a red ribbon for her entry, “Time Out,” in the Artists and Poets exhibition at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery. Her fine ceramic work has also won several awards at the gallery, and her beautiful landscape paintings garner rave comments from gallery visitors.
