The Beaver Dam community gathered together for the annual Welcome Night on Thursday, September 4. There was standing room only as Mrs. Phyllis Leavitt, principal and top eagle, greeted the audience. She promised that “this will be the best year ever!” The activities of the previous year had been presented in a Power Point as parents and students were entering for the festivities.
Entertainment was provided by the Beaver Dam Show Choir under the direction of Mrs. Sandy Andrus and Mrs. Wendy Dotson, both teachers at the school. The selection was “Happy” and delivered by smiling and choreographed choir members wearing cowboy hats. Benito and Elijah Warren, second grade brothers, brought cheers and laughter with their spirited rendition of “What does the Fox Say?”
Time was allowed for parents to visit the classrooms where their children will enjoy various learning activities throughout the year. Teachers and students had made sure the rooms reflected what study had already taken place. Students proudly showed off projects and papers illustrating their work.
Attending the ceremony were the newly elected Parent-Teacher Organization officers. Edwina Jauregui is the new president. Christy Lindberg is the secretary, and Michelle Hall is the treasurer. Their hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated.
No festivity at Beaver Dam would be complete without a visit to Miss Susan’s Restaurant. On the menu for this evening was delicious strawberry shortcake carefully prepared by Sherry Daniels, Consuelo Avila, Sandra Ceja-Sanchez, Maria Cordero, and top chef Susan Burch. As the parents and teachers left classroom presentations, they lingered to visit in the restaurant and enjoy the delicious dessert provided for them. It was the perfect end to another community building event at Beaver Dam Elementary School, the hidden gem of the Valley.
