JORDAN – YEH TIE: MANNON TIGHTENS RACE

The foursome of Andrew Yeh, Dave Jordan, Paul LeVan and Jerry Highland tied the MMGA record for most birdies in a round.  Hyland showed no fear playing for the first time with the “A” team.  Jordan and Yeh battled each other once again down to the last hole for a low gross tie of 74.  All four shot in the 30’s on the easier front side but it was Hyland who set the tone early matching Yeh’s birdie four on the very first hole.  He would birdie the third hole to go two under par after five holes.  Hyland couldn’t take advantage of the front tee on the par five 7th but managed to make the turn at 36 only one over par.  Yeh finished the front with a one under 34.  Hyland added one more birdie on the par five 16th for a nice round of 76.  At the end of the day Jordan’s par on the first handicap hole grabbed first place low gross. Don Mannon sent a strong message to Manny Lira that the summer “Fed Ex” tournament is not over yet.  Mannon shot 39-40-79 from the front tees for a net 61 and first low net and moved to within 38pts of Lira in THE summer tournament.  Dan Trower (90) came in second with 64 and Lira (91), Hyland and Jordan tied for third at 66.

YEH TIED AGAIN – TROWER SHOOTS BEST ROUND

Thursday was just one of those good days for the MMGA play.  Ten of the sixteen that teed it up at 7:30 at the Palms golf course shot net par or better.  The onslaught was led by Dan Trower’s 43-42-85 the best round he says he has ever shot for a net 62.  Great round Dan!  Sterling Johnson (82) was net runner-up with a net 66 his best round in a few weeks.  And we can’t forget our Fed Ex Cup leader, Manny Lira, 43-46-89 and net 67 for third low net.  Tom Durenberger (81), Pat “Smitty” (84),  Ben Bishop (84) and Clark Mitchell (78) were tied with their net 69’s.  The story of the day was Mitchell having four birdies and tying Andrew Yeh for low gross honors with 78 but than losing the title in the club house with a double bogey to Yeh’s birdie on the first handicap hole.  Paul LeVan’s 79 was good enough for the third low gross spot.  Andrew Yeh may have had the shot of the day on the par four 13th hole.  His back tee shot was never hooked back into the fairway but landed some thirty yards down the hill in the desert some 160 yds from the green.  Not an issue he just hit his second shot on the green rolling just off the back where he putted to within 12 inches and made a great saving par.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, July 29th at Falcon Ridge at 7:00 and Thursday, July 31st at 7:00 at the Palmer.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
