Glass is big on the current art scene. Mesquite artists are in tune with that trend, working in several different processes of glass art construction. Their fine glass art creations are available at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, the City-owned facility operated by the volunteer staffing of the Virgin Valley Artists Association.
Works by fused glass artists Tom Marshall and Margen Fritts are perpetual best sellers. Stained glass artist Linda Birks is relatively new to the Gallery, and her vibrant tabletop suncatcher disks are quickly becoming bestsellers. Strikingly dramatic blown glass vases by Dr. Doug Lorenz virtually fly out the door. A rare Janice Daniel hand-decorated porcelain vase is now in stock. All these stunning pieces are decoratives that catch the eye and highlight a room. Such pieces make treasured gifts, and “self-gifting” is highly recommended.
The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery specializes in original, locally-crafted artwork that proudly wears “Made in Mesquite Nevada” tags. Over 100 area artists show their work on a regular basis, and the Gallery is reset with a fresh display each month. The Gallery, at 15 West Mesquite Blvd., Mesquite, Nevada, is a source for not only fine glass art, but also shows a wide range of paintings, wall art, ceramics, jewelry, fine woodworking, photography, and much more.
A themed competition, “Pause and Reflect,” is featured through July 26. The public is invited to vote for a favorite among the 20 entries on display in the Mountain Gallery. VVAA Artist of the Month, Diana Coonradt, shows her collection of work in the Mesa Gallery. Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded to competition winners at an artist reception on Thursday, July 24, 4-6 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy the art and light refreshments. Sponsor for this month’s competition is Barbara Ellestad, advocate for the arts and founder of the Mesquite Citizen Journal.
Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10a-4p. Information about VVAA membership, art and pottery classes and artist studio rental can be found at www.mesquitefineartscenter.com or phone 702-346-1338. Artists interested in selling their work at the Gallery may join VVAA and become active in gallery operations. The organization offers a comprehensive community art education program, with art classes, lectures, full-service pottery studio facilities, and other educational and social events. Community sponsorships and donations are welcomed.
