MANNON TAKES OVER “FED EX” TOURNAMENT LEAD

Tuesday at Falcon Ridge was just a normal MMGA day.  No I take that back.  There was no wind today.   But the results were the same.  Andrew Yeh trying to keep his mind on golf, chatted with Clark Mitchell through 18 holes but the results were the same.  Yeh birdied the first, 12th , 16th and 17th hole, just missing a hole in one on 17 for a 39-35-74 and low gross honors.  Tom Durenberger was a distant second with 37-41-78.  Don Mannon continues to improve his game 38-45-83 for a remarkable net 63 good enough to win low net by two shots over Ben Bishop  (83) and three shots over Durenberger.  Mannon’s low round and Dave Jordan taking a day off jumped him into first place in the “Fed Ex” summer tournament.

MMGA STRUGGLE AT CONESTOGA

The MMGA were warmly greeted by the entire staff at Conestoga Golf Club on Thursday.  And the winds were back.  Andrew Yeh barely won low gross honors with his round of 80.  John Meyer (84) and Dave Jordan (85) were the only contenders.  It seems when Yeh and Jordan do not play together they lose interest in their games.  It was suggested over lunch that they should each get walkie-talkies to keep in contact after each hole to heighten their concentration.  Great idea!  Manny Lira shot a pair of 49’s and a net 70 to edge out Don Mannon by one shot for low net honors.  It also moved Lira up from 10th to third place in the summer standings.  Frank Thomasino had the putt of the day.  After recording a “steller” eight on the first hole he came right back and dropped a 62 foot birdie putt on the par three second hole.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, July 1st at Coyote Springs at 8:00 (We leave by 6:30 from Walmart Parking Lot) and Thursday, July 3rd at the Casablanca at 7:30.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
