The fifth annual Elvis Rocks Mesquite, always considered one of the favorite activities at the CasaBlanca Resort, will receive a heartfelt boost when the colorful event returns June 20-21.

This year’s event will include a cash bonus in the name of long-time Elvis Rocks Mesquite fan Marlene Peters, who passed away in November. A 22-year resident of Las Vegas who journeyed west from Chicago, Peters was a big Elvis fan for years.

“My wife was such a great fan of Elvis,” said husband Jim Peters, a retired production scheduler with Clearwater Paper. “She looked forward to the event every year. Although she won’t be there in person this year, we’d like for her to be there in spirit.

“Marlene was always amazed at the elaborate costumes the performers wore. Then, too, she really appreciated the dedication that goes into traveling to Mesquite along with performing at the CasaBlanca Theater.”

With that in mind, the next Audience Favorite honor will be presented in Mrs. Peters’ name. The award was her favorite of each performance.

The Peters family is so committed to the idea of keeping her name involved in Elvis Rocks Mesquite by sponsoring the award for the next few years.

The Audience Favorite award has always been a cherished honor as evidenced by the talented performers who have received over the years. Among those who have won the award were Frank Werth and Jacob Roman.

The schedule June 20 includes competition in the Best of the 50s at 2 p.m. and the Best of the 60s at 7 p.m.

The Best of the 70s will be highlighted starting at 2 p.m. June 21 with the finals set for 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. All performances are presented in the CasaBlanca Showroom.

Advance tickets for the 50s, 60s and 70s competition are priced from $20 and are priced from $25 for the finals.
