These three MMGA players recorded three shots and or holes of the day on a blustery Falcon Ridge morning of golf.  Thomasino started it off hitting his drive inches from the cart path.  He nine ironed it out into the fairway and from 160yds out hit his third shot seven feet from the cup.  He made the putt for a birdie four.  His playing partner Bill Irace hit his second shot up the hill into the strong wind on the 15th hole landed on the green and rolled to within three feet and putted in for a great birdie three.  The best of the three holes was made by Dave Jordan on the last hole of the day, the par three 17th.  His three wood was hit well to the left of the green where the wind grabbed it and pushed it to the right and it rolled to five feet of the cup.  And yes he also made his birdie two.  Jordan also enjoyed the low round of the day shooting a 39-42-81three shots better than Thomasino’s 84.  Don Mannon didn’t mind the winds or else his front tees were a major impact in his round of 43-49-92 for first place low net of 69.  Jim Naccarato (91) earned second place with a net 72 and one shot back was Tom Durenberger with a net 73.

You probably are asking yourselves what is the Jack Benny award.  On Thursday the MMGA played their monthly mini-tournament and the type of play was what is commonly known as “Chicago”.  The tournament director decided to call it the Jack Benny trny in honor of Benny always declaring he was 39.  So he started every player out with a negative 39, subtracted their current handicap and then each player got positive points for bogeys, pars, birdies and eagles.  At the end of the day the member who scored close to zero or in a positive count won.  Today Russ Clark recorded a gross score of 91 and after all his earned pts were counted recorded a final score of plus 4 to win first place.  Bill Irace who shot a 44 on the front side of the Canyons shot lights out on the back for an even par 35 and a total 79 and took second place with a plus one total.  Third went to Bruce Herd shooting an 82 and a final score of even zero pts.  Fourth was won by Dan Hoffman (88) and a minus one count.  Dick Swayne (82) and net minus two won fifth.  The sixth place was awarded to Ben Bishop (85).  And seventh went to Jim Naccarato (91) and a final count of minus two because he lost on a dice roll to break the tie.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, May 13th at Falcon Ridge at 7:00 and Thursday, May 15th at the Palms at 7:00.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at
