The Eagles from Boulder City sunk their talons deep into the Bulldog baseball and softball teams on Tuesday.

But despite the Virgin Valley High School Softball Team’s 7-0 loss to the Eagles, the Lady Dawgs continue to show marked improvement over their early season form.

The Dawgs behind the pitching of Becca Bramlage have shown huge improvement the last few games. The Dawgs lost 20-0 at home to the Eagles earlier this season. And the Eagles are a tough club. They lead the 1-A Sunrise Division with a 7-0 record and season record of 16-4.

The Dawgs gave up four runs in the first inning to give the Eagles a huge advantage. Bramlage settled down to hold the Eagles scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Eagles added two more runs. The Eagles finished the scoring in the sixth inning with one run to make the final score 7-0. The Bulldogs record fell to 3-4 in league play and 5-17 overall.

The Lady Dawgs host Sunrise Mountain today and Pahranagat Valley tomorrow before facing the Southeast Technical Academy Jaguars on Monday.

The boys team avoided a shutout, but fell by a huge margin as they dropped their sixth game in a row Tuesday afternoon 16-1 to the Eagles. Two weeks ago the Dawgs were hoping to expand on their 4-12 record and exceed last year’s 4-16 season. The young Dawgs have eight games remaining in the 2014 season.

Errors continued to haunt the Dawgs as the Eagles put eight unearned runs on the board in the first inning to take an 8-0 lead. Starter Marcello Lara was pulled in the first and replaced by Ezra Patton. The Eagles added two more runs in the second to increase their lead to 10-0. The Dawgs finally got a run across in the third inning on a Cody Faught single and a fielder’s choice RBI off the bat of Christian Begin. Patten held the Eagles in check in the third inning before allowing six runs in the fourth blowing the game wide open at 16-1. Senior Faught continues to be a bright spot for the Dawgs going two for three to lead the Dawgs. The Dawgs hope to repeat an early season win over Sunrise Mountain today in the Dawg Pound. Faught got the win in relief.

The Dawgs will host Pahranagat Valley in a non-league encounter tomorrow before the Jaguars come in on Monday.
