Residents and local leaders gathered at Old Mill Park to celebrate Earth Day with a hands-on effort to make their community a little greener. Volunteers spent the day planting several new trees behind the park’s batting cages, contributing to a project that will benefit the area for years to come.
The event highlighted the power of collaboration, with city staff, community members and local organizations all playing a role. Parks Manager Lonnie Dalton, along with Supervisors Miguel Mejia and Challis Barnum, helped lead the effort alongside a dedicated parks crew whose work ensured the project’s success.
A key contribution came from Kim Woolsey and Primex, who generously donated the trees planted during the event. Their support provided the foundation for the day’s work and will leave a lasting impact on the park’s landscape.
The event also welcomed participation from Nikki Meador, Jodi Johnson and students from the STEAM Center, whose enthusiasm added an extra layer of energy to the day. Their involvement underscored the importance of engaging younger generations in environmental stewardship.
City leadership was also on hand to show their support, including Mayor Jesse Whipple, Councilwoman Karen Fielding and City Manager Becca Shrupp, all of whom joined the community in recognizing the importance of preserving and enhancing local green spaces.
With new trees now taking root, Old Mill Park stands as a growing reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared purpose.
