Holiday Decorating Contest slated

Mesquite Athletics & Leisure Services will hold its annual holiday lights decorating contest on Dec. 20 and 21.

The contest is open to residents only and limited to the first 50 applicants. Applications are being accepted until Dec. 16.

The city of Mesquite will recognize residents who have demonstrated exceptional creativity and effort in decorating their homes with first, second, third place plaques accompanied by a gift along with a honorable mention.

Categories in judging are creativeness, lights and decor, originality and overall appearance.

Residents can register online at mesquitenv.activityreg.com or in-person at the Mesquite Recreation Center, 100 W. Old Mill Road.

Those who register should keep their lights on nighty  until 10 p.m. Residence gate codes will not be advertised. Only judges will receive this information.

Jazz-Ballet classes announced

Jazz-Ballet classes will begin Jan. 6 at the Mesquite Recreation Center, 100 W. Old Mill Road.

Classes, taught by instructor Dee Levasseur-Lottman will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4 p.m.

Adults and kids age 12-and-up can attend. The class is free with a rec-center membership, or $5 drop-in for non-members.

Jazz-ballet is a fun and energetic class that mixes the elegance of ballet with the exiting movement of jazz.

Students will learn the fundamentals of “technique” from the ground up. It will increase core strength, agility and stamina as you explore the building blocks of turns, jumps and leaps.

Duck Derby benefits Warrior Women

On Nov. 4, Mesquite Gaming presented the Warrior Women of Mesquite Nevada with the Duck Derby 2025 Fundraiser proceeds in the amount of $8,600.00.

The event was sponsored by Mesquite Gaming and took place at the CasaBlanca Resort pool.

The Warrior Women of Mesquite Nevada is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Our mission statement: Supporting local area residents affected by cancer. We support residents in Mesquite, Logandale, Overton and Moapa Nevada, Littlefield, Beaver Dam and Scenic Arizona.
