MESQUITE, NV – On September 15, 2025, a Mesquite Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a black GMC pickup truck traveling northbound on Interstate 15. During the initial contact with the driver, the officer observed several indicators of possible drug- related activity. The driver voluntarily consented to a search of the vehicle, and additional officers were requested to assist. Before the search, a Mesquite Police K9 was deployed and alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle. Officers then initiated a detailed search of the truck. Inside the cab, officers located multiple checks written to the driver for $2,000 each, each bearing memos linking the money to drug trafficking activity.

The search of the truck bed area revealed a large aftermarket fuel tank that was empty but showed signs of modification. Upon closer inspection, officers discovered a concealed trapdoor built into the bottom of the tank. Inside, officers found 45 individually packaged bags of crystal methamphetamine, with a combined weight of approximately 90 pounds, which has an approximate street value of $530,000.

The driver, Marco Antonio Diaz, of Westminster, Colorado, was arrested and charged with one felony count of Trafficking a Controlled Substance (methamphetamines). He was later transported to the Clark County Detention Center for booking and prosecution.

Mesquite Interim Police Chief Tracy Fails commended the diligent efforts of the officers involved, stating: “This arrest highlights the exceptional work of our officers and K9 unit in keeping dangerous narcotics out of our community. Ninety pounds of methamphetamine represents countless lives that this poison could have harmed. Our department remains committed to safeguarding the citizens of Mesquite and the surrounding areas from the dangers of drug trafficking.”
