Event celebrates signing of U.S. Constitution

Communities throughout the nation will be celebrating the spirit and meaning of the country’s Constitution beginning Sept. 17. On this day in 1787, at Independence Hall Philadelphia, 39 delegates at the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution of the United States of America.

The local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter, Virgin Valley is celebrating it with several activities, one of which is Bells Across America on Sept. 17.

The community will gather at Veterans Memorial Park at noon with the Mesquite Honor Guard presenting the colors, a patriotic short program, veteran speakers, Mesquite Bell Choir, and a pastor giving the invocation and benediction.

The community will ring its bells precisely at 1 p.m. to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Bells and water will be available for a small donation or bring your own. Bring a lawn chair in which to sit.

Jeffery McKenna, author/historian of the American Revolution will have his book, “Saving Dr. Warren…a True Patriot,” for sale.
