Kerri Roberts is another example of a really good athlete who’s talent has carried over to her athletic delivery when hurling a bowling ball down the lanes. And one of those outings which showcased her athletic ability was when she threw 10 straight legit strikes in a 9 pin no-tap youth scholarship fund raising tournament after Larry Ford passed away some six or seven years ago.

Kerri Roberts

And another one of those outings would include her latest first-rate effort when she left a single pin standing after her first ball in 11 different frames. And if the bowling deities had been a little more generous she’d of had five or six more strikes and we’d be talking about a 600 series.
Instead, we’re still talking about a very competitive outing, but not the 600 that might have been. In breaking it down, she began City High Rollers league play with a 196 and spared a single pin leave in three consecutive frames, followed with a 166 where she was a single pin away from a strike in five different frames, and finished the night with a 193 including spares of three more single pins. Put it all together and she finished with a first-rate and career-best 555 series.
Away from bowling she enjoys golfing, fishing, watching football and hockey games, and in inside source has confirmed she’s also has been known to enjoy a glass or three of some fine wine.  And as humongous fan of the Green Bay Packers she was stoked after they kicked butt in their playoff game against the Dallas Cowboy this past Sunday.
She played four sports all through high school and college, with softball and volleyball her two favorites. In fact, in high school she was first team all-conference in volleyball for three years. And as a shortstop in softball in the Wisconsin State Softball Tournament, she was awarded a gold glove for being named the outstanding defensive player of the entire tournament.
Roberts had a long career in Human Resources Management, including the last few years with Delta Airlines in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In other pin action, stoked by 16 strikes and marks on 13-of-14 non-split spare attempts, Sandy Sheppard finished numero uno in the scoring food chain with a spirited 640 series which included a 6-bagger in a clean 246 and raised her Kings & Queens League average to 195.
And propelled by a clean 230 with six strikes along with marks on an impressive 14-of-14 non-split spare attempts, Bev Cormani finished with a 612 set.
Meanwhile, Gayla Ruesch tossed a season-high 585 on games of 197, 194, 194 and over her last nine games has averaged 190. She had a run as the top woman bowler in St. George with multiple years of a deuce average including a career-high 206 in the 2010-11 season.
LeeAnn Harmes rolled a very competitive 583 with a 222 game, while Georgia “GG” Godfrey continued a season of good scoring production with a 555 and 202 game, and Reiko Schultz continued a nice scoring run of late with a 549 series in the Friday Ladies Trio League.
Diane Marget leveled 534 pins in her return to the lanes after a good couple of weeks time spent in the “Land of 10,000 Taxes,” and Marge Mongolo navigated the lanes for a 523 with a 198 game in the popular Friday morning LT League. Mongolo served four years in the U.S. Army, is a terrific defensive player in senior softball and will also be taking on some umpire duties in the senior softball circuit.
Jane Burgoyne (515-189) has really improved her bowling delivery and scoring of late, and Molly Gomes may just have launched her own run of higher scores with a solid 511 effort.
In single game action, Gayla Parison smacked a 219, and Anita Sorensen rolled a 201 in the Gamblers 4 Aces League and the nice hook ball she’s throwing will lead to more deuce games. She’s a top-notch player in the sport of horseshoes in Utah where she’s won a Utah State Championship title in her age division.
On the men’s front, John Hollaway is terrific bowling talent and his hard-hitting 741 on games of 256, 248 and 237 led all scoring last week, while the big-hit brigade duo of Scott Mattingly (717-257, 234, 226) and Mike Saldivar (711-257, 245,209) ran roughshod over the lanes again by pounding out the only other 700s.
Chase Evans who’s only in his junior season of bowling racked up a 680 and with a 300 on his resume could be on the cusp of his biggest scoring output in the weeks ahead, and Koa Pak Ned’s  676 on games of 228, 225 and 223 raised his City High Rollers League average to 205 from 203.
Meanwhile, a compelling case can be made that with a 156 average in the Early Risers League, Ken Zimmerscheid delivered the most stunning, if not the most impressive outing of the week with a 660 series being 192 over his 468 series average, and 256 game exactly 100 over his average and had a total of 21 strikes on the day, and Al Gans checked in with a 646 series and 231 game.
And also in the Wednesday ER League, ignited by eight strikes in an opening 237 game, Ken Schloman followed with a 226, and finished with a 179 and a total of 19 strikes paving the way for his signature Mesquite bowling achievement to date, a 642 series.
Also in the ER morning league, St. George bowler Dennis Craft tossed a 625, and believe it or not, but that same Wednesday night in the Mesquite Merchants Men’s League he posted another 625, and Pat Garcia spanked the lanes with his first 600 this season, a 622 including 10 strikes in a 246 game. Now understand, throwing strikes isn’t anything new for Garcia as his resume already sports a pair of 300 games.
In other action, Bob Robbins thumped the lanes with another 600, a 621 with a 214 game, and Tim McNees a former race car driver and top-notch metal fabricator popped a 616 which included picking up the 4-7-9-10 split. McNees also has a collection of classic cars and his 1930 Ford Coupe won the People’s Choice Award and $1,000 in the annual car show held this past weekend at the Casablanca.
Angel Hernandez threw his first 600 in March 2023, and he’s been on a 600 series kick ever since with his latest a 605 with a 225 game, Larry Moultrie is a whiz working with wood in his shop, and on the lanes he’s also good and delivered a 602 with a 235 game, and Steve Serrano (600-222) is at a point in his game where he’s basically rolling at least one 600 a week.
Tony Urias just missed a 600 with a 598 series on games of 218, 198 and 182 and with his athletic background getting his first league 600 certainly looks doable before the clock runs out on the 2023-24 season.
And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Jimmy Ruvalcaba’s totally impressive 594 series on games of 218, 198 & 182. Remember, he’s throwing scores like this while confined to a wheelchair and his hook ball is amazing and so is he back-up delivery for the 10 pin. He was an exceptional pitching talent at Virgin Valley High School.
In single game play, Mike Rogers (671) threw another big game, a 276, Dean Baum (644) booked a 253 ending a minor scoring funk, Jaron Linge merits ink for a season-high 250 on Wednesday and a 235 a day later, and Duane Sullivan (612) cruised to a 249 and has a season-high 279 and 726 series.
Larry Willis (634) fired a clutch 5-bagger to finish a 246 giving his team a narrow win, Butch Loger who hails from Wyoming uncorked a 236, while Dave Keil also punched out a 236 and with his improving game is seemingly on a path of throwing at least one deuce game practically every week, and Rob Cormani (612) who worked at IBM for lotsa years fired a 230.
Gary Grunwald  tossed seven strikes including a 5-bagger in a 224 with only one open and his goal is a 600 series, and Eddie Lopez navigated the lanes for games of 224 and 203 in TGIF League action.
Bruce Hamilton’s 221 blew away his 156 average in early Wednesday morning league play, Denton Dorn is a southpaw bowler who throws a bowling ball with lotsa speed and power helping him post a 205 game, and Mike Carpenter registered a 204 and he’s a retired fireman from Oregon who’s also an avid Oregon State Beavers fan.
Finally, Myles Benally (584) is a young bowler with a promising future on the lanes and with his 201, 200 and 183 games last week is on the doorstep of a rolling his first 600 in Mesquite bowling, and both Dennis Luttrell and Rick Stoneman tossed a 200.
