Rotary schedules Mudd Volleyball fundraiser for September
The Mesquite Noon Rotary Club’s Annual Mudd Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23, behind the Eureka Casino Resort.
Teams of six players may sign-up no later than Aug. 25. Cost per team is $240. One alternate player may also sign-up for $40, and each player will receive a Mudd t-shirt.
Sign-in begins at 8 a.m. and the tourney will start at 9 a.m. This event is Rotary of Mesquite’s biggest fundraiser with proceeds going to help local charities and various projects in the Virgin Valley.
The Mesquite Rotary Foundation supports various local projects and programs, such as sending students to Rotary District RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), TLC (Teen Leadership Center), Salvation Army, Virgin Valley Food Bank, new Steam Center, student scholarships, and so much more.

Recreation Center to close for annual maintenance
The Mesquite Recreation Center will be closed for annual maintenance, repairs, cleaning and special project work, Aug. 26 – Sept. 5, and will not be available for public use.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, these scheduled maintenance activities are essential and necessary to maintain a quality, clean and safe facility for our patrons.” said Zach Robison, recreation manager.
The Recreation Center will re-open Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 5 a.m.
Some areas of the facilities may take longer for cure times including the gym floors and dance room for new surfacing that will be put down.
Online registration will be available for most of programs. Some classes will be offered at the Deuce facility for adult and youth programs. The Outdoor Pool will be open to the public, hours of operation on Labor Day weekend, Free to the public on the following days.

Youth cheer program begins Aug. 22
The 12-week Prime Cheer program, with coach Reina Vallejo, will run from Aug. 22 through Nov. 18 with classes scheduled for those ages 3-5 through fifth grade.
Tuesday classes will run from 4-5 p.m. for kindergarten though first grade students and from 5:15-6:15 p.m., for second and third graders.
On Wednesdays, a class from 4-5 p.m. is scheduled for ages 3-5 and a class from 5:15-6:15 p.m. for kids in grades four and five.
Cost is $50 to $55 per month.
Prime Cheer is intended for individuals interesting to learn introductory cheerleading knowledge and skills. Program classes will include motions and cheer, jump instruction and training and an introduction to tumbling and stunting.
Required cheer uniform fee includes Prime Cheer t-shirt, shorts, bow, pom-poms, and recital entry.
Submit $45 payment directly to Coach Vallejo .All participants will work with and be under the instruction of Vallejo and her coaching staff.

Youth flag football sign ups underway
The deadline to sign up for youth flag football fall season is Aug. 25.
The league will run from Sept. 19 through Oct. 19 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Recreation Center West Fields.
Game times are TBD.
Age division are 4-5 year olds, 6-8 and 9-11. Cost is $50 for members and $55 for non-members and includes a t-shirt.

Mesquite PD honors officer
The Mesquite Police Department recently awarded Officer Campos with the Best of the Badge for June.
Campos recently stepped up as a leader in MPD’s Honor Guard. He strongly believes in the values that the Honor Guard represents and works tirelessly to ensure that this distinguished group embodies the utmost professionalism of our department.
They were asked to participate in several events throughout June, and he coordinated all the practice sessions and event scheduling for his fellow Honor Guard members.
Campos also made several impressive arrests, including one for a stabbing incident.
