While searching the web recently, I came across some interesting information about the growth of the population of our earth. A study has been done that shows the growth of worldwide population between 1750 and 2150. The study included a graph that shows a dramatic increase in the population of planet earth in just 400 years.
The study estimated the population of earth is now over 8 billion people. This increase in the global population of earth is cause for alarm to me. The reason I am concerned, is that I believe the earth was blessed with a finite supply of natural resources and when these resources are depleted, life as we know it will be in danger.
I live in Nevada, a relatively low population state. I came from a farming and ranching area where we grew crops and livestock. We did not use much in natural resources except for fuel for our equipment and vehicles.
Nevada is a state that is known for mining gold, silver and other minerals. Much of the gold and silver removed from the Comstock mines have played out, meaning there is not much left there any more. This is what I mean about depleting a natural resource. Mining of metals, coal and other minerals will eventually deplete those resources.
This is happening to natural resources not only in Nevada, but throughout the entire world. Every country and every continent will eventually deplete the minerals available to them. Another very important natural resource that will eventually run out is fuel. Coal, natural gas and petrleum will eventually run out despite what politicians tell us. Once there is no more petroleum left, there are no other resources for fuel, except wood.
Another natural resource that will soon be in short supply is land. Already, China is buying up hundreds of acres of farm land in the United States. This will make the prices for agricultural land soar. An over populated world will create a rush for people to acquire as much land as possible.
This remarkable world population growth is happening despite the thousands of people who have died from pandemics, plagues and wars. If we look back to ancient history, the ancient Egyptians created a great empire with pyramids and lots of gold such as in King Tut’s tomb. Greece and Rome came and went, likely due to using up all their natural resources.
Other nations and cultures came and went largely due to using up all their natural resources. The same can be said about the Peruvians, Mayans, Olmecs and others. I have been to Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras and climbed the many pyramids in those countries. I marveled that pyramid building seems to be something that many ancient cultures shared. Take time to study the graph show below. The spike in world population growth should alarm people to what is happening to our world.
