It’s a marvel how mainstream news has suddenly discovered the Democratic Party is losing its grip as a viable national party.

When a card-carrying socialist with commie tendencies won the Democratic Party’s nomination for the mayor of New York City last week, the Associated Press called it “stunning.”

Stunning?

Democrats openly falling in love with a candidate like Zohran Mamdani was more predictable than the rising sun.

It is simply the latest signpost on the Democratic Party’s road trip into the Twilight Zone. There were other signs along the way:

  1. Supporting biological men (who think they are women) to compete in girls’ sports.
  2. Allowing said trans “women” to shower with girl teammates.
  3. Defending the “right” of criminal illegal aliens to stay in the United States?
  4. Letting demonstrators/rioters do violence under the cover of the First Amendment because it makes the situation better, not worse, as seen in the L.A. immigration riots this month.

Look, the kookiest elements of the Democratic Party’s base have been wagging the dog for years, producing nationally unelectable “leaders” like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Jasmine Crockett.

I’ve known a lot of good Nevada Democrats over the last 50 years. I wonder how a Mike O’Callaghan or Dick Bryan would fit into the party today? As a former school teacher at Basic High School in Henderson, I can’t imagine Mr. O’Callaghan being perfectly A-OK with high school boys showering with girls.

Can you?

All I’m sayin’ is the idea of a socialist winning the Democratic primary in New York City isn’t so stunning; it’s the logical next step in the party’s descent into irrelevancy.

ROSEN THE SQUISHY

Nevada’s Sen. Jacky Rosen strained to explain why she voted for the so-called War Powers Resolution, a Democratic Party loyalty vote aimed at stopping President Donald Trump from doing things like crippling Iran’s nuclear bomb capability in defense of Israel.

The president should have sought advance permission from Congress, Sen. Rosen said with her vote.

Sen. John Fetterman, D-PA, was the only Democrat to break ranks: “I’m going to vote no on that simply because I would never want to restrict any future president to do this kind of military exercise that was very successful.”

Sen. Fetterman was 100% right. Rosen is a squishy intellectual fence-sitter.

PARENTAL RIGHTS

The closer you look at the recent Supreme Court ruling in Mahmoud v. Taylor, the more you realize what a hell-hole of strange progressive ideas lives inside our unionized public education institutions.

This is the case where parents with children in the Montgomery County Public School (a wealthy district outside Washington, D.C.) asked the court to allow them to opt out their children from LGBTQ+-inclusive storybook instruction.

You’d think that would be a common-sense ask readily granted.

But, no, you’d be dead wrong.

The aggressively nutty progressives who run the MCPS said these story hours were mandatory. They actually argued in court that to effectively preach the values of a homosexual lifestyle, they needed all pre-K through 8th-grade children in class to combat “heteronormative” stories like “Sleeping Beauty.”

The Supreme Court decided by a 6-3 margin that parental rights trumped progressive social engineering.

Look, I’m a fan of public education. I’m a product of it. But something’s gone wrong in some districts. Be alert, parents. It’s the only way to be sure your kids are not being short-changed of a good, basic education.
