July fourth fireworks slated at sports complex

For the second year, the annual July Fourth Rockets Over Red Mesa  fireworks and celebration will take place at the City Sport and Events Complex at 1635 World Champion Way.

The free event begin at 7 p.m. with fireworks kicking off at 9 p.m. There will be opening ceremonies at 7:10 p.m. with music, food trucks, dunk tank and slip and slide beginning at 7:20 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a 30-yard foot races broken up into various age divisions and at 8 p.m. there will be a water balloon toss.

Food trucks scheduled to participate are Adelita’s Mexican Food, All Kinds of BBQ and Fixology.

Dance Camp slated July 23-25 at rec center

Grace Valley Dance has scheduled  the Berry Sweet Summer Dance Camp from July 23-25 at the Mesquite Recreation Center dance room.

There will be sessions for ages 5-9 (noon to 2 p.m.) and ages 10-14 (2-4 p.m.).

Cost is $75 and includes a t-shirt. There will be a performance at 4 p.m. on July 25 in the gym.

Swim lessons scheduled

The Mesquite Athletics and Leisure Services Department has two swimming lessons slated from July 7-17 and July 21-31.

Cost is $80 for members and $90 for non-members. To accommodate more families, sessions are limited to one child per family.

Mommy & Me sessions are at 9:30 a.m., with Levels 1-2 at 10:15 a.m. and Levels 3-4 at 11 a.m.

The lessons take place at the Mesquite Recreation Center pool, located at 100 W. Old Mill Road.

Also, pool is open for free swimming on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be free popsicles.

Park at the Senior Center, 102 W. Old Mill Road and enter through the back gate.
