Baron picked as MPD SOAR award winner
Officer Erick Baron is this year’s Southern Nevada SOAR award recipient for the Mesquite Police Department,.
Baron has worked for the Mesquite Police Department for more than five years, and he also has several years of experience with another agency. During much of his time with MPD, he has served as Officer in Charge and utilized his leadership skills on several major incidents.
In one incident last year, a fellow officer was exposed to fentanyl during an arrest. He recognized the officer needed assistance and immediately requested paramedics respond.
Baron then directed other officers on scene to locate and administer Narcan to the injured officer while he helped him lay down on the ground and removed his gear. Baron controlled the scene calmly and communicated with dispatch and other officers to ensure the officer got the medical attention he needed as fast as possible. Without Officer Baron’s quick actions and decisive leadership, the exposed Officer could have had serious life threatening concerns.
