The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada, the Right Reverend Elizabeth Gardner, plans to visit Mesquite on Aug. 20. She will provide a Holy Eucharist and Communion service at 3 p.m. for a fledgling group of Episcopalian and Lutheran-ELCA faithful who are taking the first steps toward a new church in our community.

The venue will be the 1st Methodist Church just off West Pioneer on Turtleback Drive – 420 W. Pioneer Blvd., corner of Pioneer and Turtleback Rd.  Everyone who wishes to receive Episcopal Communion are welcome — Episcopalians, Lutheran, and any others who wish to participate.  All are welcome.  All are loved.  We will be guests of the Methodist community for this event.  A potluck meal is planned for the social portion of the gathering.

Episcopalians and Lutheran ELCA members are starting this effort “from the ground up”.  Many people in our community balk at the trip to St George for services and look to this as an opportunity to find services at home.

These two national level churches have much in common.  The Episcopal Church of the USA and the Lutheran ELCA church have a “Concordance” agreement to recognize and partake in services in each other’s Eucharists.  Our church formation would be a cooperative effort to welcome members of both faiths and combine resources.  Both churches practice “Open” and accepting missions without regard to race, gender, or sexual orientation.  All baptized Christians are welcome at Eucharists and Communions.
