Virginia Glossa felt a palpable adrenaline rush the first time she took in the awe-inspiring view from 14,000 feet atop Pikes Peak.

Virginia Glasso

Well, lets fast forward to her latest adrenaline rush which happened in T.G.I.F. League action at the Virgin River Bowling Center, and this time it also included lotsa smiles and high-fives from teammates.
It all happened after bringing her strike ball to the party and she kept tattooing the 1-3 pocket with a riveting 6-bagger to finish the highest game rolled by a woman this season at the VRBC, an electrifying 248, after beginning her gem with three strikes and three spares.
And after tacking on games of 203 and 171, her eye-popping scoring splurge included a total of 16 strikes, marks on an impressive 14-of-16 non-split spare attempts for a scintillating 622 series. And also making her scoring output more memorable is both her 248 and 622 series are also both career-high scores.
It should also be noted the only higher series to this juncture of the season is Sandy Sheppard’s 640.
Glossa grew up in a California family deeply immersed in sports, including a dad who was a baseball umpire, and a mom who kept scores at little league baseball games which helps explain how she became the official scorekeeper for her high school baseball team.
After high school she earned a degree in accounting from Santa Clara University, which in turn led to eventual employment in the oil and gas industry after moving to Colorado.
And in was in The Centennial State where Glossa further developed a passion for golf and won a women’s individual league championship title, and along with a  playing partner, also won a Hale Irwin Cup after winning a tournament held at a course at one of the many the Hall of Famer designed in that state.
Now she’s not the loud, boastful and braggadocious type, but we can toot her horn here, and people who’ve played golf with her have indicated she’s one heckuva good golfer.
Glossa is a huge fan of the Colorado Broncos, Rockies and the University of Colorado Buffaloes, and high on her bucket list are trips to The Masters and the Kentucky Derby.
In other women’s pin action, Sandy Sheppard’s (599-224) good outing paved the way for high-series accolades, LoriJo Turner (587-215) peppered the lanes with the next best scores, and Cheryl Rogers (583-204 & 571-199) put together another pair of good performances as she’s really elevated her game the last two seasons.
And Bobbie Robbins (540) is still putting up quality scores after competing for lotsa years in a bowling center in Sitka, Alaska with two lanes, and Nannette Kezior captured her first ink in this column after tossing a season-high 527 set with only one open in a 206 game.
And building on the momentum from four straight marks to end an opening 163 game, Kerri Roberts rebounded with two good games of 183 and 181 for a 527 series which easily blew away a previous 502 high. On a related note, there’s also a Steve Roberts who bowls in the same City High Rollers League who finished with a 505 set. Uh, oh! I hope not, but that zinger may just have blown up a friendship. Brother!!
Meanwhile, Charlene Heiden tossed a season-high 508, Ashley Yokoyama-Kesl (506) delivered a solid outing, but a 600 this season is a distinct possibility, and Darlene Carpenter (504) was so stoked after her first 500 in several years she ordered an adult beverage.
In single game play, Tama Hixson is a former softball player who fired six strikes in her first deuce in ages with a 210, while Jane Burgoyne also smacked a 210 and she’s also the proud mom of a daughter who won a full ride bowling scholarship to the University of Nebraska where she won both All American honors and a National Championship.
Ronnie Tsuhako tossed six strikes in a season-high 203, Georgia Godfrey (514) also uncorked six strikes in a 201, and Reiko Schultz smacked a 200 on the nose.
Finally, Sherry Williamson snares her first ink for a season-high 199, and after beginning her first game with two opens, Janette Powell engineered an impressive turnaround with some really good bowling that included a 4-bagger and some clutch spares to finish with a 190.
In men’s pin action, Dennis Craft (677-243,228,206) delivered a standout performance which included 19 strikes and going a perfect 13-of-13 on his spare shots, and Gil Niimi (654-231,221,202) put together his best overall outing this season. After missing basically all of last season, look for more of this similar pin action as he’s a good bowler with a pair of 300s and a 290 on his resume.
Bruce Hooley (641-228) put it all together for a good 600 set, and while Al Gans didn’t add to the thirteen 300 games on his resume, he did throw a clean 247 and marked on an impressive 16-of-17 spare attempts in a 637 effort.
Harold Hendrick (619-219) enjoyed another good week with 18 strikes in his third 600 series and raising his Gamblers 4 Aces League average to 185, Sal Diaz (628-225) and all his revs gives his game a high ceiling, while Dan Aslin (628-225) delivered another nice 600. And as a side note, he’s also an avid reader who’s read a high number of the most influential books ever written.
Ben Soliz (600-218) merits ink for his first 600 this season, Ernie Kala (599) fell a pin shy of one, but did throw a superb 259 game which featured a 6-bagger and 10 total strikes, and Jeff Jacobson (597-224) also narrowly missed a 600, but I’m giving him a mulligan on that because of a really bum knee on his slide foot.
In single game play, after an open in the first frame, Mike Rogers (677) went off the sheet with 11 straight strikes for a 289, and that’s on the heels of a 278 the previous week, and Dave Johnson (650) was happy with the fact that on the same night while bowling and tossing an 8-bagger in a clean 264, he was also able to watch his Utah Utes kick butt and defeat the USC Trojans in the Pac 12 Championship Game.
Bob Marget chucked a 246, Rob Hartman (630) was pounding the pocket with the same pop seen in his previous two 300 games, Brian Collins had a 5-bagger in a clean 239, Dave Pershing (617) pocketed a 227, and Robert Melendez hurled a 225.
Meanwhile, Angel Hernendez (215, 211) delivered a pair of deuce games and here’s betting he will get his first 600 before the clock runs out on the 2022-23 season, and like Hernandez, Josue Mendosa continues improving his game as he rolled a personal-best 214 with a 5-bagger and only one open frame, and also had a 4-bagger in a 211, while Red Powell (212) keeps cranking out at least one deuce a week.
Dennis Hartley smacked a 210, Ron Harrison who hasn’t bowled in years also booked a 210, and Maury Hardman who was a top-notch bowler with an outstanding resume during his heyday on the lanes competing in both Utah and Idaho rolled a clean 209.
Jerry Holloway’s (207, 204) pair of 200s must mean a 600 is on the horizon, Dale Davidson tallied a 205, Frank Burdett (204, 202) also popped a pair of deuce games, Brian Rasha fired his first deuce this season with a 203, and Logan Kendrick who graduated from Virgin Valley High School in 2020 fired a 200 game.

Oh, bay-bee!

Shari Reynolds is a realtor with ERA Real Estate and put together a 4-bagger and six total strikes in a season-high 185 … Polly Hendricks of the popular Gutter Girls team in the T.G.I.F. League fired a 175 which easily surpassed her previous high this season of 159 … Bob Monson Sr. picked up the 5-7-10, and before retiring worked at UPS for 26 years … Glynnis Smalley loves to walk a couple miles a day and and loved getting her first-ever turkey in the 10th frame … Maria Stella’s 166 blew away her 108 average … Cindie Selbo’s season-high 133 finished comfortably above her 107 average.
