There are still mail-in ballots to count, but as of Wednesday morning, two challengers to incumbents have leads in their respective races. If this advantage holds, there will be three new members to the Mesquite City Council.

The race for Seat 3 was always going to have a new council member as George Gault decided not to seek re-election. In this race, as of Wednesday morning, Pattie Gallo holds a 1,948 vote advantage over Joey Bowler. Gallo has  5,303 (61.25 percent), while Bowler garnered 3,355 (38.75) votes.

In the race for Seat 1, challenger Karen Fielding holds a 1,932 vote advantage over incumbent Sandra Ramaker. Fielding has 5,294 (61.16 percent) votes, compared to Ramaker’s 3,362 (38.84 percent).

Paul Wanlass leads the race for Seat 4 with a 672-vote advantage over incumbent Karen Dutkowski. Wanlass has 4,658 (53.89 percent) votes while Dutkowski has 3,986 (46.11) votes.

In the primary election in June, Dutkowski was the top vote-getter among the four candidates for Seat 4, but didn’t reach the 50 percent threshold to avoid the general election.

In the race for Overton Power District 5, Seat 1 in Overton, incumbent Richard Jones holds a 179-vote advantage over challenger Joseph Davis as of Wednesday morning. Jones had 640 (58.13 percent) votes, compared to Davis’ 461 (41.87) votes.

In U.S. House of Representatives District 4, which includes Mesquite, incumbent Democrat Stephen Horsford has a 5,961 lead over challenger Sam Peters, although mail-in ballots have yet to be counted. Horsford has 99,205 (51.55 percent) votes while Peters has 93,244 (48.45 percent).
