Late Sunday evening, March 15, Mesquite Mayor Al Litman signed a Declaration of Emergency for the city. It is available online at the city’s new website dedicated to issues surrounding the COVID-19 virus outbreak: health.mesquitenv.gov/announcements

“This is an operational emergency order and not a direct cause of any known virus cases in Mesquite,” Litman told the Mesquite Local News Monday morning. “The disease is not running amok in our community. We have not had any known cases of the virus as of today.”

Litman explained that the Declaration of Emergency allows the city to take extraordinary measures should they be necessary and reduces normal and sometimes lengthy channels and procedures that would have to be followed in regular courses of business by city government.

Litman also said “the Mesquite Recreation Center and the Senior Center will remain open at least for today. That can all change in the next hour. Please remind residents to access our web site for updates and information but please don’t call the city or staff. They are inundated with tasks that need to be done to ensure the safety and healthy well-being of our residents and employees.”
