Hello Mesquite Residents,
My name is Linda Gault and my husband, George, is running for City Council Seat 3. I’m sure you are as tired of all the political discourse as I am, but I feel that I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you something about my husband.
It’s unfortunate that mudslinging, lies and false accusations are needed when a candidate isn’t sure he or she will win an election. It’s happening at all levels of government – locally and beyond. Ethics and truth seem to be missing.
We recently attended an open house party where those attending could hear what George had to say about current issues facing our city and talk in more depth about his background and vision for Mesquite. At the gathering a gentleman came up to me and said, “You must know your husband fairly well.” To which I replied that I certainly hoped so after being together 32 years. He then asked me to describe George using five adjectives. Without hesitation I replied, “Humble, honest, trustworthy, loyal and kind.” His reply, “You have confirmed what I had already decided in my own mind.”
As George’s wife, I can say without doubt that George is the type of person you want to represent the City of Mesquite. His education, past work as both a County Administrator and County Planner, and his extensive work history in both the private and public sectors give him the requisite skills to serve this community well.
I know George will make the best decision possible for the good of the community now and in years to come. I thank you for your consideration of George on November 6th. Vote GEORGE GAULT, CITY COUNCIL, SEAT 3!
Linda Gault
I agree 100%. We need more council members who are looking out for our best interests, not their own. Good luck George.
Linda, I’m assuming you’re referring to George’s opponent, Dave Ballweg, with your statement – “It’s unfortunate that mudslinging, lies and false accusations are needed when a candidate isn’t sure he or she will win an election.” If you are not, accept my apologies in advance.
However, Dave has run a straight-up campaign based on concrete results & numerous, verifiable accomplishments. He has purposefully avoided the political mudslinging, et al to which you refer. He doesn’t have to !!! Plain & simple.
It’s unfortunate when candidates & their supporters resort to unverified claims, rumors, speculation, hearsay, he-said-she-said & the like. Just throw it out in the press, tarnish one’s reputation & cast doubt on their integrity.
Thank you for reminding me why I despise politics & how much I appreciate the integrity of Dave Ballweg. – Dave Z
Interestingly, the only time I have seen negativity in this race was when Gault attacked and belittled Councilman Ballweg at the VVCA Candidate Forum, in some sort of ill advised ploy to gain applause among his base. I am sure Mr Gault is a fine man, but this was not his best moment. Between the two candidates, Councilman Ballweg is the clear choice for families, businesses, economic development, fiscal responsibility, etc, representing ALL residents of Mesquite. At the same VVCA forum, Gault actually proposed the City buying the hospital in order to save the Labor & Delivery wing.
Surely he did this as a political ploy, as the main issue of the recently formed VVCA is L&D, but surely he can’t be serious. Such a fiscal albatross would have monumentally negative effects on our City’s budget!
Ballweg has been endorsed by community and business leaders like current councilmen Brian Wursten, George Rapson, NV State Senator Joe Hardy, NV Assemblyman Chris Edwards, former councilman Kraig Hafen; Rick Anderson, Rich Bowler, Brenda Snell (past CEO of Mesquite Chamber of Commerce), Ken Cook (former Chairman of the Chamber & Founding member of MRB); and many, many leaders in this community.
To Linda: With all due respect, I understand your obligatory support of your husband, but I take issue with a couple of your statements:
1. To say that the voters are ‘tired of the mud slinging, lies, and false accusations’ subtlety implies that Dave Ballweg has been engaging in the above activities. Whether that was your intent or not it could be NOTHING further from the truth.
Dave Ballweg has taken a different approach to traditional Mesquite politics, and has run a positive, upbeat, fact based campaign. He has a strong record of accomplishments as a councilman, business owner, and citizen of Mesquite.
2. As for ‘humble, honest, loyal and kind’, those adjectives are NOT the general consensus of many who have actually worked with your husband.
I have had the opportunity to work and associate with both candidates over the past 7-8 years, and I can attest to Dave’s record of positive ACCOMPLISHMENTS designed to help this town move forward.
Some on Council and in the community tend to focus on ‘style’ and not ‘substance’. Trust me, I’ve had issues with both candidates, but I have found Dave to be upfront, very open to different opinions, and fair-minded in his decision making. Most importantly, DAVE DELIVERS RESULTS!
To the VOTERS: I strongly encourage you to support a man of integrity who will definitely have a positive impact on Mesquite….Dave Ballweg!
