First of all, I would like to congratulate Ms. Black on her victory. I am disappointed that we came up just a few votes short, but found comfort in knowing what this election meant for Mesquite as a whole.

I have seen Mesquite change so much over the years and on the day of the election I saw thousands of people flood the polls to let their voice be heard. I saw so many first time voters display their “I voted” sticker proudly on social media and families take their children to the polls. Over 7,000 people cast their votes in our little town during a midterm election. I was so incredibly humbled by the voter turnout and all my experiences throughout this campaign. I got to meet so many people and developed a number of friendships that I will cherish forever. I believe that this is only a sign of things to come and look forward to seeing how many more people will vote in two years.

To Annie, I wish nothing but the best of luck and all the success in the world. She now represents our City and I hope her four years on Council are great for Mesquite. I will do everything that I can to assist the City Council as we all continue to fight for the issues that we face as a community.

To my supporters, I love you all. I am at a loss of words when I think about all that you did for me. I have nothing but pride when I think about the race we ran. So for everything you’ve done, I thank you.

For over twenty years, I have loved Mesquite and worked to make Mesquite the best version of itself. This election didn’t change that. I still love Mesquite and will still work every day to improve it for everyone. The future is bright for Mesquite and I am so incredibly proud to call it my home.

Sincerely,

Karen Fielding
