What do you get when you put six months of planning together with a group of passionate and committed people working hard to provide the “must attend golf tournament” in Mesquite?

A hugely successful 13th Annual Chamber Golf Tournament that just gets better and better!!

This year’s event held at Conestoga golf course sold out a month and half prior to the Aug 3/4 date! Phil Crapo Tournament Chairperson and his committee added a Friday afternoon kick off with a Chipping and Putting contest for golfers and non-golfers alike.

We had a couple of dozen people participate in chipping and putting with Craig Demos winning the chipping contest and Justine Jackson holing out the only putt in the putting contest! The annual Horse Race had 23 two-person teams with the winning team of Brian and Rob Wursten winning the horse race.

College of Southern Nevada hosted the Chamber Mixer during the events. More than 90 people attended the networking mixer, enjoying appetizers and libations served by the 1880 Grill. The 50/50 raffle prize was won by Sandra Ramaker and Rudy Gonzales won the Barrel of Booze! Having the Friday events helped show case the City of Mesquite with many out of towners spending the night in our fair City.

There were 30 four-person teams play on Saturday in the golf tournament. Teams could buy string and mulligans to help improve their scores. There were numerous on course contests that provided fun as well as the opportunity to help lower your score. Play it forward, play 5, Hole in one, Dixon golf hula hoop and Heroes in the Rough added excitement and challenges to the day. Heroes in the Rough was a charity were all proceeds went to help rehabilitate wounded warriors.

Many groups tried the Heroes game launching a ball from No. 17 Tee box and landing on the green giving them an opportunity for an eagle on the hole!

The chamber is a not-for-profit agency and uses the funds generated from the tournament to fund ongoing operations and provide programs to members and the Mesquite Community. The tournament is one of the Chamber’s major fundraisers and a great business networking opportunity.

The winning team of Daryl Graham, Rudy Gonzales, Janette Powell and Jeff Powell carded a 47 utilizing every contest offered that day. Second place was Master Villa’s with Jeff Jacobson, Chad Klein, Ryan Beaza and Bill Mitchell. Third place was Conestoga/SCM team with Craig Demos, Phil Crapo, Mark and his son. Ed Ramsey was the Grand prize winner winning the trip to Hawaii. The real winners were all the people supporting the chamber tournament who came out and had a great day!

During the tournament Mesquite Gaming hosted the beverage carts providing welcoming relief with cool drinks and beverages. Load Tec/Dave Ballweg was our lunch sponsor with a hamburger, hot dogs and all the fixings.

The chamber would like to recognize our wonderful members and sponsors who helped make the tournament a great success: Kokopelli Landscaping was the title sponsor. Southwest Gas was a birdie sponsor. And a special thank you to Rick Jackson and his team at Conestoga for providing us a fantastic course and tournament!
