Mesquite Elks Lodge #2811 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks held an open house Saturday afternoon in their facilities at 545 Riverside Road. The event was held to inform residents of Mesquite, Moapa Valley and Beaver Dam of the good work of the Order. A horseshoe shaped booth was set up in the meeting facility manned by Elk officers, committee chairman and members alike explaining to visitors what the Elks and the Lodge programs do for the Mesquite area. Individual tables had handouts and information sheets regarding youth activities, community activities, Veterans programs and drug awareness, The Elks have a zero tolerance drug program including the use of marijuana. The youth activities table explained that the Elks were sponsors of Little League, Elks Hoop Shoot and Soccer Shoot. The Soccer Shoot will be held on Nov. 5 at the recreation center fields and the Hoop Shoot on Dec.10. As visitors browsed the room, Elk members offered soft drinks and cookies baked by members to all attendees. Lodge membership chairman and event organizer Penny Propotnik said,” It was fun and we all had a good time.” Visitors Steve and Jean Langlois, from Sun City Mesquite said,” They had never been in the lodge before, saw the ad in MLN and decided to check it out.”
