Varsity Scouts (14-15 years old) from Team 6082 sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mesquite 2nd Ward went on a horseback trip to the Boulder Mountains near Escalante.
They fished in Purple Lake and McGath Lake, setting up a base camp and riding from there doing 8 miles the first afternoon and then 21 miles the next day.
“It was definitely an adventurous trip. We were able to take the horses over several obstacles on the trail with success” said Jaydel Wilson, one of their leaders.
The boys learned how to groom, saddle and bridle the horse, and provide care for it. Over the course of preparing for and completing the ride, the boys rode over 40 miles. They have almost completed their horsemanship merit badge by going on this trip. Each evening they had a devotional or story.
Those participating on the trip were scouts Britton Wilson, Kaden Laub, Keaton Ogden, Dallan Tanner, Cache Burnside, Jaden Dalton, Cody Burnside, and leaders Kurt Sawyer, Jody Burnside, Dan Reber, Trent Reber, and Jaydel Wilson.
