The Virgin Valley High School Girls Volleyball team defeated Desert Pines High School 3-0 Monday night keeping their hopes up for a birth in the 1-A Sunrise Division Tournament. The girls have three away games left on their schedule. They control their own destiny. They must win two games to insure a spot in the final four.

The Lady ‘Dawgs easily dispatched the Jaguars in the first game of the evening 25-14. The Bulldogs never trailed as Nikki Arquette had two aces to get the ‘Dawgs rolling. The Jaguars managed to close to within one point at 8-7 before freshman Janella Fiso, who was recently called up from the frosh squad, and Alexis Thompson led the Bulldog servers to a 19-8 lead. A huge block by Kourtney Metzger brought a roar from the Bulldog faithful. Kirstan Tanner’s kill finished off the Jaguars 25-14. The Bulldogs had 10 aces and only two service errors in the match.

The second match found both teams committing numerous service errors. The score was 9-8 in favor of the Jaguars before four straight service points from Alora Bonner gave the Bulldogs the lead at 12-9. The Bulldogs were up by a score of 17-13 before Fiso took the ball and served eight straight points to give the ‘Dawgs the win over the Jaguars. Fiso had three aces during the run. The final score was 25-13.

The Jaguars were no match for the Bulldogs in the third game as the ‘Dawgs won 25-11. Metzger and Bonner controlled the net with kills and dink shots to keep the Jaguars at bay. Jasmine Pulver finished the Jaguars off with two aces and four straight points to lead the ‘Dawgs to a score of 25-11 over the Desert Pines squad. Bonner had nine kills and four aces during the match. Arquette had 18 assists and Tanner had five aces and three kills to lead the Bulldogs. “We are playing with cohesiveness and confidence as a unit,” said Coach Ilona Robeson. “We brought Fiso up from the freshman squad and her aggressiveness has really helped us,” added Robeson.
