The Virgin Valley High School Girls volleyball team swept the Chargers from Clark High School in three straight matches Thursday evening at Hughes Middle School gym. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first match before Clark’s coach called a time out to settle down her troops. Graylynn Groelle had four service points to lead the Bulldogs. The Chargers closed to within four points at 12-8 before Cassandra James put up to aces and increased the ‘Dawg lead to 16-8. Clark made a run at the Bulldogs but could not get within three points of the Bulldogs. The final score Bulldogs 25-20 over the Chargers.

The second match of the evening was a classic matchup of two evenly matched teams. There were 14 ties and eight lead changes in the match. The Bulldog Ladies showed their resilience trailing 19-23 and 20-24. Although on the ropes with match-point facing them the Bulldogs dug in behind team captain Alora Bonner and tied the match up at 24-24. A huge kill by Kourtney Metzger gave the Bulldogs the lead at 29-28. Bonner’s kill ended the match with the Bulldogs on the long end at 31-29.

The final match of the evening found the Bulldogs down 4-7 before rallying behind Kerston Tanner’s serves to take the lead at 10-7. The Chargers called a time-out to regroup. The ploy worked as the Chargers were only down by one point at 16-15. It was all Bulldogs the rest of the way as Bonner had two kills to finish off the Chargers at 25-21. “We played well but were still young and made lots of errors. Everyone played and I was proud how we played tough and came back in the second match,” said Coach Ilona Robeson. The Bulldogs next home match will be on September 4 against VO-Tech.
