The Eagles from Boulder City High School came to play Thursday afternoon as they controlled most of the first 10 minutes of the game on their way to a 4-1 slashing of the Virgin Valley Bulldogs. The Eagles hit goal at the 10 minute mark when Massimo Barbieri struck a penalty kick in the box by the Bulldog goalie. It would be his first of two goals scored for the match. The Eagles had two more attempts at goal within seven minutes, but their shots were stopped by the Bulldog defense. The Eagles offense was relentless as they attacked the Bulldogs defense. The ‘Dawgs offense had their best chance to score goal at the 36 minute mark but Gabby Medina’s shot was blocked. Although overmatched, the Bulldog defense held the Bulldogs to only one goal in the first 40 minutes of play.

The Eagles seemed to catch the Bulldogs standing around in the beginning of the second period scoring goal within two minutes of play. The Eagles second goal would be all they needed to win the match. Medina’s shot in front of goal at seven minutes was blocked by the Eagle goalie. The Eagles then quickly went on the offensive scoring goal one minute later. The score now stood at 3-0 in favor of the Eagles. Medina gave the Bulldog faithful something to cheer about when he broke free to hit goal at the 17 minute mark cutting the Eagle lead to 3-1. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on with a corner kick that went wide. The Bulldog’s had many opportunities to score in the second period, but poor kicking or saves from the Eagles goalkeeper kept them at bay. The Eagles scored one more goal 34 minutes into the second period and went on to win 4-1. The young inexperienced Bulldogs will have three away games before hosting archrival Moapa Valley High School on October 2.
