The Virgin Valley High School Girls soccer team easily defeated the Sunrise High School Miners 5-0 Thursday afternoon at the Mesquite Sports Event Center. The Bulldog Ladies came out strong from the opening whistle to dominate play. Striker’s Briana Tilton and Karson Bryant had multiple shots on goal before Bryant struck goal at the 31 minute mark of the first half giving the ‘Dawgs the lead at 1-0. Emily Lara’s strong defense and passing kept the pressure on the Miners defense. Lara’s pass to Tilton resulted in a goal with seven minutes remaining in the first half of play. The Miners had their first corner-kicks of the match with three minutes remaining in the first period. All were stopped by the Bulldog defense. Bulldog Emma Dodenbier breakaway and shot on goal went wide but her determination to score her first goal of the year resulted in goal with less than a minute remaining in the period. The Bulldogs finished first half play with a 3-0 advantage over the Miners. The Bulldogs spent most of the first half attacking the Miners goalie with an organized offense. Their passing was crisp as they kept the Miners off-guard most of the first half.
The second period began with the Bulldogs continuing to dominate on both sides of the field. Bryant increased the Bulldogs lead with the fourth goal and her second of the game at the 36 minute mark. Tilton attempted two corner kicks which were not converted as shots on goal went wide. Lara’s perfect pass to Dodenbier was converted to the fifth and final goal of the game. Dodenbier and Bryant finished with two goals each for the game. Bulldog Coach Scott Trimming substituted freely most of the half getting much needed experience for his young team. The Bulldogs will host Basic High School on Monday.
