Despite a young inexperienced squad, Coach Bob Snell’s ‘Dawgs are 4-1 after defeating Adelson High School 9-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Mesquite Sports Events Center.
The Bulldogs squeaked by Meadows High School Tuesday in Las Vegas 2-1 on two goals by Marelo Lara. The Bulldogs are starting up to six-freshman this year. Private Adelson High School was no match for the Bulldogs as they wilted in the hot sun.
Gabby Medina hit a free-kick to start the scoring for the Bulldogs. Lara added a goal at the 20 minute mark on a pass from Moises Medina. Adelson cut the score to 2-1 with a goal 29 minutes into the match. The second half was all Bulldogs as their offense went into high gear and they lit up the net with seven more goals. Moises Medina hit goal twice in less than three minutes blowing the game wide open. Seconds later Lara’s shot on goal was blocked by a great save by the Adelson goalie. Adelson added another goal on a free kick with 36 minutes remaining cutting the Bulldog lead to 4-2.
Six minutes later Efren Rodriquez hit goal followed by Moises Medina’s third goal for the “hat trick”.
The Bulldogs continued their onslaught as the Adelson defense was slow in reacting to the Bulldog pressure. Tony Villalobos added two straight goals before Juan Ulloa finished the scoring with a header off a corner-kick. The Bulldogs substituted the rest of the way allowing one more goal to make the final score Bulldogs 9 to 3 over Adelson.
The Bulldogs outshot their opponents by a 26-6 margin and had seven corner-kicks to none. Gabby Medina had four assists and his brother Moises had three goals. The Bulldogs have two away games before hosting Basic High School on September 10.
“Despite the score, our boys still need a lot of work. We are not feeling each-others moves very well. We are young and making mistakes but that’s to be expected with six-freshman starting,” said Snell.
