The heat busters of the Oasis Men’s Golf Club were out on the links of the Palmer course on Monday, Aug. 6. The golfers were grouped in threesomes and played two best net scores.
Brian Bergman paced the field with a two over par 73. Jerry Ransdell (75) and Jerry Schulz (79) also helped their teams with good scores.
Capt. Bergman, Bill Wells, and Ed Hutchins were grouped together. This was unfortunate for the rest of the field because not only did Bergman have the low score in first flight, Wells led second flight with an 81 and Hutchins outscored everyone else in third flight with an 84.
The trio shot a team net of 118, equal to an impressive 24 under par. Their winning score was nine shots better than Bill Homer, Rich Burton, and Mike Edwards who captured second place with 127.
Ransdell and Schulz divided the skins pot in first flight with one each.
Wells picked off four second flight skins. Jim McMahon won two and Bob Mason and John Parkinson each grabbed one.
Hutchins and Max Burgess each won two skins in third flight. Ron Flentye and Kim Hardy shared the other two skins with one each.
Jim Austin won the closest-to-the-pin award.
