MMGA Weekly Update

TUESDAY:  DURENBERGER  -  McCARTNEY  CREATE  MAGIC

Twenty-three MMGA players teed it up at Falcon Ridge early to beat the predicted winds and almost completed that plan except for the last two holes.  Neil Hendricks led all players with a 37-40-77 aided by birdies on holes three, seven and eleven.  Second low gross went to John Meyer with an 80.  Jerry “goldie” Hyland shot a pair of 41’s for an 82 and net 67 to lead the net scores by three shots.  Second low net was turned in by Tom Durenberger (84) with a 70 net.  One shot back was another Tom, Tom Greer (89) and net 71.  Three people were next with net 72’s:  Bill Irace (84), Meyers’ 80, and Pat Huetter (84).  With a nice par four on #13, Irace earned fourth.  Meyer went bogey - par to win the last spot when Huetter shot bogey – bogey.

APERCUES’S:  Durenberger had the shot of the day when his second shot, from 127yds out, hit the green and bounced once, hit the pin and dropped in for a “sweet” eagle two.  Gary McCartney scored the hole of the day on the par four #11.  His drive hooked over the fairway down into the dirt and rocks on the side of the hill to his left.  After hitting a provisional his teammate found his tee shot some forty yards to the left on the right side of the fairway.  Another one of his playing partners, after pulling all the “lucky” charms out of Gary’s pockets was heard to say, “he’ll probably birdie the hole now”.  His second shot stopped 12 feet from the hole and yes, you guessed it, he sunk the putt for the predicted birdie!  Great golf guys!

THURSDAY:   WHAT?   FROST  ALREADY!

That’s right folks; the MMGA had a half hour FROST delay at the Casablanca on Thursday.

More and more players are teeing it up now that the snow has started to fall up north.  On Thursday at the Casablanca, twenty-four MMGA players teed it up after a unexpected early frost delay.  Paul LeVan and playing partner Neil Hendricks played head to head on the front nine with LeVan getting the upper hand with a one over par 37.  Hendricks, with two birdies, was only two shots behind with 39.  When LeVan birdied the 10th hole and Hendricks taking a bogey five it pretty much set the tone for the back side.  Hendricks tried to rattle LeVan with a birdie of his own on #15 but Hendricks would go bogey, bogey on the next two holes to shoot 79 to LeVan’s 76.  Roger Mueller (83) showed no mercy on his fellow players by winning first place low net with 68, two shots better than runner up Pat “Smitty” Huetter (81) with 70.  One shot back with 71 was Bill Irace (82) and Tom Greer (87).  Both players bogeyed the first hole than triple bogeyed the second and Irace won out with his par four on the third handicap hole.  Hendricks second place gross position netted him a 73 and in the 5th low net spot.  Welcome back Roger Mueller and “bogey” Bob Chambers

APERCUE’S:  Bubba Petrick had the putt / chip of the day on #8 when he sunk his putt attempt from eight feet off the green rolling some 20 feet into the jar for a nice birdie two which would eventually win him a skin.
