TUESDAY: MEYER BEATS HENDRICKS BY ONE STROKE
John Meyer continues to improve his game as evidenced by his 37-39-76 on Tuesday at Falcon Ridge. It was still cart path only but you wouldn’t know by his score. One shot back was another fine performance by NEIL Hendricks with a very steady 38-39-77. One shot back of Neil was Bill Irace’s very nice round of 37-41-78. “Bogey” Bob Chambers started his first hole with a triple bogey eight and followed that up with an eight on the next hole, but the next 16 holes were superb. He would score five birdies including birdies on the very difficult #10, and followed that with consecutive birdies on #11 and #12. Great playing everyone! Jim Barfknecht just back from somewhere up north shot a net 66 which was tied with Irace, and Joe Woodward (92) for first place low net. Barfknecht took the title with a bogey on #13. Second went to Irace as he scored double bogey, par. Woodward finished third. Ben Bishop (81) finished out the money spots with a net 68.
THURSDAY: SPITALE’S CRUSHING VICTORY LEADS BLUE TEAM TO WIN
Thursday at the Canyons the MMGA played a match play type of format pitting the blue team against the red team. We don’t know what the colors meant but one could imagine with an election coming up next month they represented blue states and red states. The blue team consisted of Meyer, Bishop, Chambers, Lira, Spitale, Huetter, Durenberger, Hendricks, LeVan, Gardner and Moore and were pitted against the red team of Mendoza, Irace, Johnson, Reilly, Lewis, Gallihugh, Corzine, Petrick, Thomasino, Smith and Greer. The teams were so evenly matched by handicaps that each team gave up only three strokes. Larry Spitale with his unexpected 9-7 win over John Lewis led the blue team to victory. Welcome back Larry Spitale! Here are the overall results:
spitale 9 & 7 over Lewis; Chambers 5 & 4 over Johnson; Greer 4 & 3 over Moore; Huetter 3 & 2 over Gallihugh; Thomasino 2 & 1 over LeVan; Reilly 2 & 0 over Lira; Durenberger 1 & 0 over Corzine; Gardner 1 & 0 over Smith; Bishop 1 & 0 over Irace; Petrick draw with Hendricks and Mendoza a draw with Meyer.
APERCU’S: Neil Hendricks and Bubba Petrick had the best match of the morning. Both players shot 75 and Hendricks sunk a 20 foot birdie putt to tie Petrick on the last hole. Petrick had three birdies while Hendricks sunk two. On the par three #7 hole Petrick, from 108 yds, dropped his shot two inches from the hole for a “kick” in birdie. But just as their day went back and forth, Hendricks sunk his putt to tie the hole.
NOTE: Next play is on Tuesday October 16th at 7:00 at Falcon Ridge, and Thursday October 18th at the PALMS at 8:00. Both days will be cart path only.
